JCams Honda Hobbit

Postby JCampbell » Sat 14 Mar 2009, 17:35

Hi Everyone,
I come to this site mostly to read and freak out on all the cool Caminos that you guys build.
However, today I want to share my Hobbit with you all.
I bought it from the original owner. He purchased it new in Connecticut in 1979. I bought it from him in December of 2005 and it was my first moped. I've owned around 30 mopeds and the Hobbit/Camino is still my favorite.
The day I bought it:

Here it is today:

The setup:
70cc Parmakit
engine cases matched to Parma
N8P exhaust by Motomatic Mopeds
21mm Malossi Intake
21mm Dellorto PHBG with Malossi air filter
Modified/Dremeled reed plate
Boysen Power Reeds
Malossi racing gears
TJT Maxivar variator for Derbi Variant
Mag wheels from Belgium
Rear tire: Michelin Gazelle M62 2.5"x17"
Front tire: Sava MC11 2.25"x17"
Long seat from '83 PA50
Puch levers
Puch Headlight
Low bars
Yellow cables

Top speed is still undetermined.
I'm trying to find a replacement for my rear drive pulley and having a difficult time.
I think top speed is between 55 and 60 mph. I have to get the vario tuned right and then I'll GPS it to find out for sure how fast it is.

Enjoy the pictures : )

Like I've already said on your other topic, I really like this camino.. Am I correct when I say you also have an electronic ignition system? Every camino here in europe had standard Mechanically timed ignition systems, so we have to use parts from other mopeds , like the dayang moped, very cheap pa-50 looking moped, or honda PX. I recently learned the youngest pa50II mopeds in the us had electronic ignition systems?

:-D Breaker points ignition :(
6V :(

The 1982 and 1983 models in the U.S. with what we call CDI ignition.
I'm not certain though if they were 6V or 12V...
I want a CDI setup badly, but have had trouble finding one when I've got the money for it...

My Puch (manet korado) engine is 12V and I like it much better because I can get 12V bulbs everywhere and cheap :-D
6V bulbs are hard to find and expensive :(

Also, KillingSnake...I love snakes and have had pet snakes since I was a kid.
Please don't kill them :-D

No won't kill them . If you contact Quartzsp, ask him for an cdi (we call them the same here to, Capacitor Discharge Ignition), he sells them to.

Wow, clean moped!

Where do you guys get the TJT variatior for Derbi Variant? In Belgium, even europe it's pretty hard to come by..
Do you have an online shop where you get it?

grtz
Wait for it, Wait for it... LEGENDARY!

Prestige? Anyone?

Thank you all for the compliments on my Hobbit.

Niellez - I got the TJT Variator and the TJT ramp plate that goes with it here:
http://www.treatland.tv/honda-hobbit-PA50-camino-moped-parts-s/14.htm
Probably the best place in the USA to get performance moped parts...

T.G.T. - I ride it hard! I've got other cool bikes so I only ride the hobbit about once a week...
Here's a pic of my fleet of mopeds.
Image
I also just got a Puch Magnum that is not in the pic... :-D
I've put about 3,000 miles on the Hobbit since I bought it.
